With all the guys in attendance, we soon were able to see all the fun aspects that each groomsmen will bring to the wedding party. A great group of guys! Our appointment was with Heather the Assistant Store Manager. We had discussed a few options with her beforehand so as to have the options prepared when we arrived.

With the the bridesmaids wearing ivory as well as the bride we had an interesting concept that is usually reserved for destination weddings. We thought it would be a great idea, given the ivory gowns and the contemporary setting of Chambers Hotel with it's clean lines, to have the men wear all ivory. Not just the groom but also the groomsmen, ushers and father of the bride. We know it's not a real in thing - Yet! When you see the end result it's going to be very slick! We selected the After Six Ivory Prado tuxedo with ivory shirt, vest and tie.

The other option would be the 'new brown' which is Grey. We looked at the Calvin Klein - Legend grey tuxedo. Although the Calvin Klein tuxedo was beautiful and the tailoring impeccable, the look did not work with the ivory gowns. You hear people talk about an overcast look. The steel blue color did not work with the grey and would have made this ivory look muddy.

Heather assisted us with switching out coats and pants on the mannequins and we played with the idea of a gangster hat...NO not really but there were some students in for Prom who were loving the hat. Mike liked the Ivory Tuxedo, although he had just missed seeing this on the episode of Platinum Weddings Katie had seen earlier that week. He wasn't sure what we were thinking at first but after seeing our concept he soon bought into the idea and was very happy with the choice as was his bride Katie.

Here is a secret tip that we saw just playing with the tuxedos. An ivory jacket, shirt, vest and tie along with grey trousers. I know it's seems odd but try it, it's an interesting combination that may just play out for an afternoon wedding. Could we possibly call it the trendy 'new afternoon stroller'? Unfortunately I don't have pictures but give it a try!

"We Have A Winner"

This past weekend, we were very excited to host the Bridal Show Producers International Conference in Minneapolis. We created the wedding Jenna Bush could have had at The White House. As a feature, we were thrilled to have worked our connections and received one of the 12 wedding gowns designed for Jenna Bush’s wedding. The gown designed by Amsale was the clear winner if the wedding would have taken place at The White House voted by brides throughout the country. Say Yes To The Dress!

Katie Ebert is one very lucky bride. Katie and her fiance Mike Ivey are the winners of Trend Wedding 2009, which will take place on Friday June 5, 2009 at the Chambers Hotel Minneapolis.

We were very excited to work with our friends Lois and Caroline Fritz at The Wedding Shoppe on Grand Avenue in St. Paul www.weddingshoppeinc.com for the wedding party to select their bridesmaid dresses and “The” wedding gown! Yes, Katie not only said Yes to Mike when he asked her to marry him but when they won Trend Wedding 2009 she would also “Say Yes To The Dress” as her gown would be from the Kleinfeld Kollection exclusively at The Wedding Shoppe and our friends Mara and Ronnie at Kleinfeld’s Bridal Salon in New York the location of the hit TLC show “Say Yes To The Dress”.

So in preparation of hosting all four bridesmaids, the mother of the bride and the bride we discussed with Lois and Carolyn and decided to schedule a private fitting on the second level of The Wedding Shoppe after closing time so the girls would have the run of the space. I arrived early to get things set up and to work with Caroline on pre-selecting the bridesmaid dresses. Matthew was on his way from a meeting and was bringing the champagne because you know how warm it gets trying on all those gowns. Well, so we have been told! We selected a variety of bridesmaid dresses in different styles and lengths to see what would be the ‘it’ look for this group of Trend Wedding bridesmaids.

The Wedding Shoppe on Grand Avenue has a large selection of bridesmaid dresses as you can see from the pictures. Of course they all come in a variety of silhouettes, fabrics and colors so all we needed to do was narrow down the selection based on color palette for the wedding and then a few different styles to see what the bridesmaids would like. Of course we were also looking forward to feature something that is trendy; after all this is the Trend Wedding!

As Caroline went to pull some of the fashions, I greeted Amy and Matt Coppersmith with Coppersmith Photography who will be photographing the wedding. They are also spending time documenting the planning process as well so the couple will have a truly documented wedding experience from start to finish. They captured these shots for us at the fitting. You can see some more of their wonderful work by going to www.coppersmithphotography.com

Lucky the photographer and I arrived early as the wedding party determined the trip from Apple Valley to Grand Avenue in St. Paul would take longer than it did. Due to light rush hour traffic, they arrived early. The only glitch was one of the drivers locked her car keys in the car when she arrived at The Wedding Shoppe. Yes, we will chock that up to the excitement of the day. So we were just getting ready to introduce all the bridesmaids, Danielle, Katie, Rachael and the Maid of Honor Tracy along with Sue, the Mother of the Bride. And right behind them was Matthew with Champagne in hand. So let’s pop the cork and get started!

With the trend for colors to become more muted, we started with a pale palette of blue, green, yellow and lavender with an overall illusion hue to the silhouette. While short dresses are the fad right now, long dresses are on their way back into trend. Instead of the “standard” satin gown we gravitated toward what we think is a much more trendy softer image with a chiffon gown. A very “Grecian” look in ivory which we think will be the popular look next year or so. The accent color of a very muted light blue with a hint of gray. So if you are wondering what are muted tones, take a look at softer colors ie. Instead of bold colors use the following comparisons: green/sage green, pink/blush, silver/gray, brown/taupe, purple/violet, yellow/buttercup, orange/peach, and blue/steel blue. So if you are planning your wedding for 2010 or 2011, think away from jewel tones unless it’s an accent color.

The much-anticipated moment of the evening was finally upon us as it was now time for Katie to start trying on bridal fashions from the Kleinfeld Kollection. We started by discussing styles and silhouettes she was interested in reviewing and started to select gowns from the special Kelinfeld Kollection area. We discussed fabric, draping and structure and then the many options.

There were a number of different silhouettes we selected from: Empire Waist, A-Line, Ball Gown and Fit and Flare. We wanted to have Katie experience the many different styles and how they will fit on different body types. We started with a strapless rouched bodice taffeta ball gown to see if volume was the direction we would go, but it was too much and we needed something more elongated. Even though the ball gown had a trendy pocket it just seemed to engulf Katie. Our next choice was an empire gown with vertical draping with beautiful embroidery and crystal beading. It was very much in the style of the gown Audrey Hepburn wore to the Embassy Ball in My Fair Lady. Okay, not so much glitter but the overall silhouette was stunning! Katie had a stature about herself. She carried herself with more assurance and confidence and that is what a bride should feel when she has chosen The Dress! The next option was a Fit and Flare gown, which can and proved to be a bit tricky. The fit and flare needs to be for a woman with a long torso but when you have a person who is equally proportioned in height from neck to waist and waist to feet you are missing the extra length in the torso needed to complete that drop flared skirt. So we were on to the next gown. A “Grecian” three tiered gown with a sheer organza tank style bodice. Although the gown was similar in style to the bridesmaids which would be a cool retro 50’s /60’s look, it simply made her appear shorter, obviously a dress for a taller bride. The next gown was a traditional long sleeve gown in lace. Not quite the overall look we were hoping to achieve nor did Katie picture herself in lace so although we had her try the gown on, it was dismissed just as quickly. The next gown was a strapless A-line gown in a handkerchief style skirt, with a brooch crystal medallion. Although the gown was beautiful and trendy, it just did not echo the simple clean lines with subtle details and edging we were trying to achieve and part of Katie’s vision.

We tried on two more gowns and the vote was unanimous the second dress was “The Dress” to “Say Yes To The Dress”. Stay tuned for future updates as The Wedding Guys and Coppersmith Photography keep you informed on the planning for Trend Wedding 2009! Cheers!

NOTE TO BRIDES: When you are trying on wedding gowns for the first time, usually you will end up selecting the first or second gown you tried on. It was fun to see a number of friends in the industry like Darcy Miller, Editor of Martha Stewart Weddings, Walt Shepard, Publisher of Inside Weddings and Stephanie Davila, Senior Editor from InStyle Weddings. It was terrific to see Tom and Monique smiling with all the excitement surrounding the new collection with a big surprise for everyone!

So you are wondering what are the Long and the Short of it when it comes to the Spring 2009 Couture line for Monique Lhuillier. Well the Long is stunning gowns we have come to know for Monique. The beautiful silk tulle gowns and beautifully draped bodices along with the exquisite regal silk ball gown were of the most stunning sophisticated silhouettes. There are a few in the collection, which have such surprising details such as the ribbon-pleated blossoms on the bodice. The intricate beading, fabric roses and origami designs on the tulle skirt are just a few of my favorites along with the French bustle gown, Love It!

So the Short Surprise of the collection is sexy, romantic and sophisticated cocktail bridesmaid dresses! HELLO! You have got to see them! Wait until you see them, you will go crazy over them and the price range around $300. YES, can you image a Monique Lhuillier bridesmaid dress that can actually be worn as a cocktail dress or a dress you can wear again as a guest to an event or wedding..and not look like a bridesmaid! You would be crazy not to have one! They are HOT! The pink one is my favorite with the deep plunging neckline, along with the coral dress with the rose at the neckline. The yellow one is so Audrey Hepburn! OH HECK WE LOVE THEM ALL!!!! Have you noticed I have not said "Oh My God" yet? Saving that for the end! It's where the latest wedding gown, bridesmaid gown and accessory designs are released for the upcoming season. This is an industry event and not open to the consumer or public. This is where bridal salon owners and media find out what is going to be in-style and out-of-style for Fall 2009 and early Spring 2010 brides.

So let's start the trip...we had an early flight on Continental on Friday April 3rd. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 9:00AM but do to air traffic and bad weather in New York/ New Jersey our flight left 1.5 hours late. We still had ample time to get into New York, check into the hotel, shower and dress before meeting Mara Urshel, Owner and President of Kleinfeld Bridal Salon and the location of the TLC hit series "Say Yes To The Dress". Well as all things go, there is always a glitch somewhere and as the plane hovered in the air waiting to land for an hour, our flight was re-directed to Harrisburgh, Pennsylvania so we could re-fuel. Sighhhhhh! Gasp! Ugh! You hear so many moans and groans of upset people on the flight but Matthew and I both thought it would be better to land and re-fuel instead of running out of fuel. Dah! People who travel need to get a reality check!

Here is a picture of the New York skyline from the Newark Airport. Matthew waiting for the train to take us to Penn Station. Choo Choo All Aboard!

We landed at 4:30PM and we had to hop the train into New York and then take a cab from Penn Station to our hotel called The Time hotel. Very nice boutique hotel. Great staff and a block off Broadway from Times Square. So shower, dress and off to Kleinfeld's Bridal Salon to meet Mara. We were just in time as about 5 minutes before we arrived they unveiled the new window display by Kleinfeld's Visual Designer, Jacques Vigneault. If you can see it, the green swirl pattern in the settee was carried into the design by having the mannequin holding a pastry bag with green icing trailing onto the floor. Very cool!

So we were off to Sushi Samba for dinner after a tour of the amazing Kleinfeld Bridal Salon a full city block of Bridal Gowns! Oh can you say Matthew and I were both in total Bridal Heaven. You can see above.

We had a great dinner with Mara, Jacques, Jennette - Assistant Director of PR and Dorothy-
Director of Merchandise. Sushi Samba was a new restaurant and we all had to try it. It was very good so when in NYC you should stop in. It was funny catching up with Mara about her recent travels to Europe and the look and style of European bridal fashion. As you can see it was windy.

Saturday morning we were off to the races with appointments to review bridal collections. We have to tell you about the "Pure" line by Justin Alexander. Our designer friend Jose Diaz of Justin Alexander actually gave us a sneak preview of their new Pure bridal line. Designed for the "ecologically aware bride" who wants to still have that sleek, sophisticated chic look, the gowns and short dresses are very today! Modern, hip and smart! The designers took into account the carbon footprint in making these garments which we thought was a very interesting position for the line. Also, the garments are biodegradable unlike synthetic fabrics. The beading on the garments were even more interesting with crochet lace and the actual use of marble stone in the neckline embellishments. Bravo - finally a Green bridal gown that doesn't have to be a burlap bag. What I think was fun about this collection is that they truly educate the person about the garments so the person understands the "Green" elements. Great Job!

Our next stop was one of Bruce's all time favorite designer for over the top couture. Yes it's a lot of fabric sometimes and he truly believes it takes a very confident woman to wear one of these designs. For those who know Bruce you will know who I am talking about - St. Pucci! What is amazing about these gowns is the amount of attention paid to the detail. Designer Rani Totman has again and continues to elevate her designs to an art form which you can see by the layered jackets in the images above. A true level of artistry is brought to each design and she never seems to amaze the buyers at market to her true interpretation of art by not just weaving the details and embellishments on the gown, but also the traditions that create a sophisticated feminine look with an outcome of a confident and stunning silhouette.

What's a bridal gown without the headpiece and we have to say there are great things on the horizon for headpieces and hair jewelry. We have been intrigued by Erin Cole taking the art of accessories to the next level and downplaying the "Prom Tiara" with a more sophisticated soft tiara. As we believe headpieces don't need to be like head gear! Yet we are for the very puffy bouffant over the top veil if your silhouette calls for it. So first let's talk about what's hot! Yes, you know the look you see on the women's' basketball court or volleyball court - the elastic band to hold the hair back. Well, it's entered into bridal known as the bridal headband. OK so we are waiting to see who will have the first headband for bridesmaids. So we have gone from headpiece to headband and the headband has definitely taken off and the styles are stunning from a simple band to a ribbon band embellished with as much or as little as you would like. Now if you take a look at what we did while we visited the showroom for Erin Cole you can see where we really had a great time playing dress up the model. We started with a simple ribbon band, then added the veil. From there we just kept going to adding the silk flower, the double headband and then wrapping the French Tulle around the neck of the model to create a very chic modern Edwardian 1911 style scarf. I think the only thing we missed was a brooch on the bow of the scarf! We will leave that up to your interpretation.

Our next appointment we had was with a new designer who caught our attention. We could tell you about all the designers you possibly may already know but we were on the look out for some new talent. You know - we were in New York City home of Project Runway so we decided to stage our own up and coming designer to feature on our blog and we think we did just that! We wanted to find something that is unique. That one of a kind look that's not being sold in three salons in one city kind of look. The designer's name is Beth Elis and her inspiration for her collection was her fascination with the complexities of women. The names used for her collection are of famous women in history. When you think of bridal you automatically think of Princess Grace, Princess Diana etc. What surprised us was the inspiration from former First Lady - Lady Bird Johnson. Above are a few of our favorites from her collection. For more information please go to www.bethelis.com.

A quick break from the action to plan out tomorrow and then a quick stop at Starbucks - there on every corner you know, and then it's on to an invitation only cocktail reception for designer Rosa Clara.

Rosa Clara, a terrific breath of fresh air who truly knows how to make a bride look like a bride. Feminine, secure in herself, confident to appreciate the elegance of the ocassion; yet regal in her own mind as being the center of attention in that dream that every little girl dreams about. What we loved about the Rosa Clara collection is that she has brought back a more soft romantic look with a frill of details and design styles for a true bride. Her style is very European and yet very attractive for the American bride. Truly inspirational in her silhouettes, she did an amazing thing - designing gowns that did not take designs from each other. You know the same gown three or four ways just in different fabrics. So over and tired of that. Other aspects of what she did and you can see in the images above is not just putting a jacket on a strapless gown, but creating a jacket for each gown taking the detail and design of the lace and fabric into consideration. The first image reminds me of Caroline Kennedy's wedding gown at first glimpse. The fifth gown reminds me of Marilyn Monroe and the fourth image is the now popular adding stones into the details of the gown. Veils are also a wonderful thing to see with Rosa Clara. Many of the gowns have their own veils designed to be worn with the gown, a traditional style mostly used in Europe, which has fallen off in the United States. So three great cheers or more to a truly unique and talented designer! What's the buzz about Rosa Clara is her evening wear line. I'm just going to say it's stunningly amazing!!!!

Next on the list and something we had been looking forward to was dinner! Busy throughout the day with so much to see we somewhat forgot about lunch and walking the streets of NYC gives you quite the exercise. We had the distinct pleasure of having dinner with Megan Garmers of MG Hair and Makeup who flies into Minneapolis to provide the hair and makeup design and style for the fashion show models. We had a lot of fun walking and going to different areas of NYC along with a great coffee shop near NYU. Megan also had fun enjoying my first experiences riding the subway of NYC. It was fun! As you can see form the above pictures we saw some interesting art as well. From the Dumpster art to the beautiful tiles in the subway I don't know why we haven't taken the time to travel more on the subway when in NYC.

Sunday was a day to explore and come up with some new trend ideas so it was off to the Macy's Spring Flower Show which we had seen an advertisement on the way into the city. If you have not been to Macy's in New York, it's truly a treat. First it's HUGE! I forgot how large the store is. Matthew even asked is this the worlds largest department store. You actually can see the old wood escalators. I know it was so funny almost taking you back in time when people actually dressed up to go shopping. They really did! So look at the images above, the colors are so right now! I want to see a bride or bridesmaid where flowers in their hair like the last image! I dare you! You want something different right?

Stay tuned as we will have more Trend Ideas not just for the bride but her guests in another episode of Where In New York City are The Wedding Guys!

The most exciting part of this day is actually going to be at the end of the day when we had the distinct pleasure of being invited for dinner at the home of our wonderful friend Sylvia Weinstock and her husband Ben. A terrific cake designer and a magnificent cook. What we had for dinner and dessert is a secret. A wonderful host and hostess for the evening, then it was late and it was back to the subway! OK they kicked us out as it got to be too late. You know us when it comes to weddings we could ramble on for ever and ever and ever and ever! Sorry no pictures available however, we can say we have a trend secret but we are waiting on Sylvia first! Right Sylvia?!

Well it was our last day and night in New York and it was going to be jam packed. Oh and let's just say it was raining and if you have ever been in NYC and it's raining you know it's not fun let alone pretty! You not only dodge people walking fast on the sidewalks - although we can keep up or pass some of them - but you have to be careful of all the umbrellas that could poke you in the eye. We started out at the Pronovias salon. One of Bruce's favorite designers Elie Saab is a designer for Pronvovias. The seven story building plan separates the floors into different uses. The first three floors are allocated to their collections. The next two floors are reserved for the more exclusive collections of their designers such as Elie Saab, Valentino and Manuel Mota. The sixth floor houses an exclusive showroom for presenting collections and hosting private fashion shows, and the corporate offices are located on the seventh floor. There are a total of 25 fitting rooms within the salon, very contemporary space and European in style. All in all a very impressive salon and a very pampering environment.

Our stay in New York City for 2009 Spring Bridal Market would not be complete with out news about Monique Lhuillier's new line. When I walked in front of the salon I stopped dead in my tracks! I could not help but be taken back by a surprise to see the Evita gown in a stunning display(ala Dawn Bromander) love the chandelier. I snapped this picture of the display and one of the detail on the gown. The peacock feathers are breathtaking! I am told the gown also comes in ivory.

Each feather is hand stitched onto the gown. It's truly amazing and glamorous all in one. Monique's innovative style truly comes to the forefront with this silhouette and the beautiful tulle veil adding a sense of mystery and wonder. I'm not going to tell you how much it cost, because when I asked Donna and she told me, I said, "Is that all?" If you are a couture bride you owe it to yourself to see this amazing gown. On another side note - I wanted to say that Monique's bridal line this past season so reminded me of Princess Grace Kelly and then I read an article quoting Monique saying Grace Kelly was her inspiration. BRAVO Monique. Your look is truly Lovely, Stunning, Sophisticated, Delicate, Dainty yet Confident and so very much a lady personifying Grace! Bravo! Love it! Can you tell we love it?!?!

The salon at 50th and France in Edina, MN is located at 3928 West 50th Street, Edina, MN 55424. Well I guess that is what blogging is suppose to be all about but sometimes when people blog they just ramble about random things or you get to a little TMI about the Blogger! Ooops I'm rambling!

Anyhow I have to tell you about an exhibitor who was at The Wedding Fair on January 18, 2009 in Minneapolis and who will again be at The Wedding Fair on March 15, 2009 in Minneapolis. It's Thomasina's Cashew Brittle! I have to say three words sum up the brittle! It's quite simple - OH MY GOD! It's a piece of heaven to say the least. And let me tell you once you have one piece you will want more and more and more and more and more! Since The Wedding Fair in January I have purchased the 1lb. box as gifts for friends and family from Kowalski Markets in Minneapolis and you can also for your own reference order online at www.thomasinascashewbrittle.com. I have to tell you it's funny to talk to people after you give the brittle as a gift because they all say the same thing. "OH MY GOD I could not stop eating it. Every time I would pass by the box I would have to open it and have another piece." And this is from people who workout at the health club all the time. OK so listen up brides! If you want to give favors for your wedding and you want your guests to talk about it for many years to come you better get in line and order your brittle now for your favors. Or better yet - if you are having a dessert table make sure you have it on your menu! Yummmmmmmmm!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://theweddingguys.blogspot.com/2009/03/yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm-thomasinas-cashew.html' title='Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Lynn I have to say you have done an amazing job and listen up all you brides who have the opportunity to look at the venue - you better hurry up because the your wedding date won't be open long! Accommodates 200 ppl for a dinner reception and 250 ppl for a standing cocktail reception.

What a fantastic place. The entrance off the street is so welcoming and the "Brides Suite" is beautifully decorated and detailed. A perfect place for a bride and groom to have a bit of champagne and nourishment before the guests arrive! Jules who is the event manager was graciously welcoming people and making sure everything was perfect! Of course it all was! The cocktail area just off the entrance is perfect! So bright and intimate all at the same time. Now before I tell you about going into the elevator to the reception area I have to tell you once you enter the building you feel like you have stepped into an amazing environment. If you are looking for a space where you don't have to go over the top with decor this is the place!

As you exit the elevator you arrive into the reception space. The golden colors are warm, inviting and beautiful. The stonework is original and you feel as though you are taken back in time as if you are standing next to history in a contemporary way! Hint - if you up light the stonework on the walls it will amaze you while giving you some high impact areas.

I had the fortune of meeting many of the amazing and talented vendors who support the venue which couples can select from to create their own wedding. So let me run through who was there and what I saw:

Class A Valet: Westy was on hand with his valet service - they were spot on as soon as I drove up and I know this is such an easy thing but when the valet opened my door he said good evening and welcome to 413! Flipping rock star! What a great way to make your guests feel!

Relia Drive: Have you heard about this. He has been around for a couple years. A very cool concept and perfect for your guests like to celebrate just a little too much. They actually will drive your overly joyful guest home and then have one of their staff follow in the guests car so when they awake the next morning they are not taking a taxi to get their car. Think of it this way - a lot less than a DUI expense for your guest and a guilty feeling for you should something bad happen!

Violet's Flower: Jean Cowles - your flowers were fresh amazing and stately all at the same time! Can that possibly be! Oh you know it! The colors, textures and different styles - you rocked it girlfriend!

Studio 6: Jean Peine, always a fresh look and your signature style of greens and pinks. PS: I know Don didn't change your linen! LOL

Linen Effects: Don it was fantastic to see you and the tables and centerpieces you displayed were so you - nique! Great fabrics and textures and loving the black candelabra!

Macys' Design Cuisine displayed fun and fresh ideas for hors d' oeuvres! They were creative and to say unique would be an understatement! The taste and flavors were stunning!

Aarcee: Showing all their rental items and specialty linens. Allison was great to talk with and creative in coming up with rental combinations to surprise your guests with. Get that Chocolate Shot Machine!

The Saint Paul Hotel: OK I have to say it was such a simple thing but what a great idea and concept. It was a buffet where you can build your own soup! I know can you believe that - it was flipping amazing and fun. What a great intro for the dinner or even as an action station during the cold months in Minnesota for when you guests arrive before the cocktails start flowing!

D'Amico: There famous Torte Milanese was a hit! Their signature bistro style wait staff and servers were gracious and extremely professional engaging the guests answering many questions about the menu selection.

Fabulous Catering: Their presentation was beautiful as seen in the picture on this blog. The taste by so many guests were raving reviews!

Lowry Street Chocolat: (No it's not a typo) They have great chocolates made from a grandmothers recipe box. Their "Signature Truffle" is a 75 year old recipe! It's heaven!

Dippin Chocolate: The famous chocolate fountain was fun as always! So many creative things to dip. I am always amazed that people will say oh no I am on a diet or watching my waistline and then before you know it - Dip - in it goes and right to the lips! I know I do it myself!

Something Blue Stationery: Creative papers and ideas. Invitations are so personal and I liked the creative ideas behind the invitations and save the dates that I saw on display.

OK, now what would a wedding event be with out...............CAKE!

Of course you have to have cake and there were two cake designers on hand!

Buttercream: Greg was on hand to share their latest cake designs. Their cake design was very contemporary and the smaller cake a more traditional tone on tone pictured in this blog. Their famous chocolate and raspberry cake was on hand and you know I was right there to try a piece.

Queen of Cakes: Terri, is always a joy to see and we talked about all the fun cakes and flavors available to brides today. Very artistic and fun. Of course Terri new of my love for everything CAKE so I tried a small selection of each - Vanilla Bavarian Cream, Marble Strawberry and Chocolate and Raspberry Mouse.

Now of course I want to thank Laurie Schneider of Laurie Schneider Photography for her amazing artistic eye in capturing couple things I asked for to display on the blog! Megan's company does on-site hair and makeup for weddings. She always does the hair and makeup for our annual Trend Wedding. Megan and I have the best time planning the hair and makeup for the show. Honestly I don't think she knows what to think sometimes when I call or email to discuss options. I think she thinks I am crazy but that's ok that's how we come up wiht the great looks. Right now we are working on the Love Is A Cure Breast Cancer Benefit that will be on February 22, 2009 at the Minneapolis Covention Center. My first email to her was - I'm thinking beautiful eyes like Donna Mills. For those of you who can remember to the 1980's she played a not so very nice woman on Knots Landing. 1980's whatever she has the most beautiful eyes! Anyhow I know this just cracks her up when I do that or talk about the 1980's.

So the look we were going for in our hair and makeup was a warm look in makeup and a more relaxed formal yet sexy look with the hair. Megan is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to just the right look. I always have my own look I am tryng to accomplish and Megan helps me to bring it current with a twist. Sometimes we even mix styles to achieve the right look. The one thing I always try to have is the models all looking the same so your focus when you watch the show is on the gowns and flowers, hair and makeup second (sorry Megan but you know it's all about the dress on the runway). A great idea for your wedding is to have all the bridesmaids in the same hairstyle if that can work with the different hair lengths your girls may have. Yipee for hair extensions!

The makeup is always a bit bold up close on the models but in order for their eyes to look open when you are sitting 30-40 feet from the runway they need to be as seen in the top image.

No matter what your style or look is and if your dream is to someday work a runway, the most important part of your hair and makeup on your wedding day is to make sure it's you! Don't come up with some crazy idea for your hair and makeup on your wedding day. The last thng you want to happen is when your guests see you come down the aisle and they are wondering who the bride is or if they are at the wrong wedding because they don't recognize you!-) And I just want to say there is a HUGE difference between hair for your wedding and Prom Hair! Make sure your stylist understand.

If you plan to attend the March 15th Wedding Fair, I invite you to stop by and visit with Megan in the Weddings Couture area. Tell her The Wedding Guys sent you! Or you can visit her on www.mghairandmakeup.com. So Cheers to fabulouso hair and makeup on your wedding day and don't let the snarles get you down!

The Yellow Dress! How you may ask well keep reading and I will give the 411 scoop!

Kleinfeld of Manhattan has release their exclusive bridal line called Alitia Graham Designed by Kleinfeld of Manhattan. Mara Urshela and Ronald Rothstein owners of the famous bridal salon along with fashion director Randy Fenoli and creative visual Jacques Vigneaulg who does the most amazing windows at Kleinfeld in New York City. I will be back to talk about the Window Shopping toward the end of the blog.

Mara, Ronnie, Randy and Jacques are such wonderful people and the line they are bringing to The Wedding Shoppe is truly as wonderful. You see Kleinfeld of Manhattan is very fortunate to see amazing gowns from all over the world and their line truly reflects the needs, desires and wants of brides from all over the world. So introducing the beautiful fabrics and embroidered lace. As many brides found out during their appointment that day the cut and fit of the gowns were truly amazing. So here are some of our greatest sound bites about the line...some from us and some from brides. I will say if you have not made an appointment to see them you should!

We heard a lot of WOW's all around. The fabrics so beautiful and light. Large ballgowns which you would think look to be heavy are actually light in weight. The silhouettes are stunning, perfect and flattering. Simple and Elegant, just the right touches in just the right spots. Not overly dramatic yet stated perfectly. The fun thing about these gowns is they are new on the scene and the designers are interested in knowing your likes and dislikes.

So there was so much fun in meeting with Brides, having the brides get their pictures taken with the stars of "Say Yes To The Dress". But the most fun I thought was not just the buzz in the air about the new line, but the fun the brides truly had playing "dress-up" so to speak with Mara and of course Randy. Randy was a delight. And yes Randy I am going to take your idea and match my socks with my tie. Randy had a fuchsia tie and matching socks. It was totally cool that's all I can say. But watching Randy help the brides in selecting accessories and how they might look walking down that aisle was like watching little girls play dress-up. It was magical, fun and exhilarating all in all a perfect match for the Kleinfeld Kollection! Speaking of the perfect match Lois from The Wedding Shoppe and Mara said the wedding gown for Trend Wedding 2009 will be a donation from the Kleinfeld Kollection.

If you are interested in having an appointment at The Wedding Shoppe to see first hand the amazing dresses, contact them at 651-298-1144. And YES you will be saying Yes To The Dress!

OK so you want some really cool visuals and decor ideas? OK, Shhhhh. Remember when I mentioned Jacques who designs the windows at Kleinfeld...here is the web address so you can see the windows.

They are Flipp'n Amazing! Bravo!

www.kleinfeldbridal.com/index.cfm?pid=kleinfeld-windows

We would like to thank Coppersmith Photography for covering the event. So I guess Matthew and I are volunteering to help out for the event. If you want to walk with us contact us at 763-529-1900.

Way to go Open Arms of MN! You all have your heart and head in the right place! Everyone loves and appreciate what you do for so many! Thank you!

Bridal Accents Couture and International Designer Jose Dias - HOT!

So here we are on the way to Bridal Accents Couture in Savage, Minnesota to meet Jose Dias, an international designer for Justin Alexander Couture. Savage, Minnesota is about 10 minutes West of 35W South on Highway 42 near Burnsville, Minnesota. It's about 3pm and we are figuring it's time for Bloody Mary somewhere in the world but okay not in Minnesota. We stopped at Champps for lunch if you call 3:30ish PM lunch. So we hear Jose Dias is a really nice guy and his gowns are unique, stylish and Yummy Red Carpet inspired. Yes Jose is from LA, you know just down the road from that place called Hollywood. Yes where the hills are alive with the sound of Sassy talk and Sassy Smart Fashion looks!

So okay focus Bruce it's 8:00pm now, the Presidential debates are on. We met Jose and he talked to us about designing and what he is seeing hot off the runways. It's funny to listen to him talk about different parts of the world and what sizes are the average and what people like and don't like. So here we go. California, showy and size 2-4 and all about 5'5" tall so don't believe all the stars at 6feet. In Europe like Germany women average size 24 and in the United States they average 14-16..which is what Princess Diana was like when she first entered onto the world stage. You didn't know that did you! See hang with us and you will increase your trivia. Not sure how important it is but maybe in some parts of the world it is.

Anyhow, we talked about how gowns are becoming less embellished and more - let me hear it loud and clear - "Simple But Elegant" in other words plain and simple. Ta Dah!

Jose Dias is a wonderful designer who has the flair for the original the glamor of red carpet and the understated elegance that is truly today's Bride. You can tell Jose truly understands the line and look of truly great style and design. His price points for what you are looking at are amazing if not jaw dropping because it's truly affordable in this day and time of watching your money. The fabrics are true and his re-embroidered laces with metallic are stunning. If you are looking to meet him in person you need to run your fingers quick to call Bridal Accents Couture at 952-846-4496 to set up an appointment with him as it will be the best thing you ever did for your wedding. He spends real quality time with his brides, always listening to their suggestions, questions and of course praise for his work. And it's well deserved praise. I hope to be in Chicago next weekend for Bridal Market so I will be there to see Jose Dias designs on the runway! Jose you Rock! Oh, Oh, Oh and when we arrived he was designing a gown with adaptations the bride had requested. A true designer. When you see him design it's what you get. PURE TALENT!

Also you can see his gowns on the main runway of The Wedding Fair on October 12, 2008 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Hope to see you there!

Bravo for Minnesota Monthly Best of the Cities

Let's just say this was the week for working late and seeing everyone in many industries which overlap the wedding industry. We were off to the Minnesota Monthly Magazine Best of the Cities not to be confused with other Best Of or Best of the City whatever! You know them all! Could there be one more? They not only raised the bar in over the top they brought a party that hasn't been seen in Minneapolis for years if ever! Ralph and I have known each other for a few years when he and I worked on an event that brought Michael Jordan into Minneapolis. (If you want to know - Michael does talk very quiet.) Matthew and I were very honored and proud to be able to celebrate this wonderful event with Ralph and his staff.

From the moment we received our special leather boxed invitation in the mail with the silver pocket watch enscribed "Who's Ready To Speakeasy?" we knew this was not going to be just any old run of the mill event. And boy have we seen our share even when they have been promised to be over the top. Been there seen that, got to go! From the moment we arrive and a gentleman asked if my name was Vassarella and I said no, it's Vassar but if you want to add "ella" like Cinderella I won't take offense. We all laughed and Dylan and Nikolai ushered us over to walk the red carpet in W style - purple! It was pure Purple Reign BABY!

The camera bulbs were flashing, TV media it was all there. Ralph was gracious and had a picture taken with us and who was behind us, no other than Las Vegas actress Molly Sims! There were your Vikings of course and high profile executives from notable TV and radio shows as well as monthly publications (Andrew Rice, Editor -in-Chief of Twin Cities Luxury & Fashion and Lori Storm, Managing Editor - really great people, ride the tide!) it was a part of Hollywood in Minneapolis on a Thursday night. I know a Thursday night! Well we all know that Thursday night is when the real party people go out, saving the Friday and Saturday nights for the amateurs. Robyne Robinson from KMSP FOX 9 once told me. OK back to the party. Next step was into the property itself. So here we goooooooooooo!

The entrance is the most stunning dark shades of black, grey, silver and gold with a Fabuloso chandelier wrapped around a pillar that Matthew noticed..he has the eye for that kind of detail. As we moved to the living room areas, they transformed these into the dance club. This is where it gets really good. The DJ - oh yea! A female DJ who not only was playing Hot music, but she was HOT! Her name was DJ Sky Nellor from West Hollywood. She played Michael Jackson like only somebody could from West Hollywood. Go to myspace.com/skynellor to learn more about this fab person.

Nextdoor to the sassy dance floor - all in black I may add - striking, was the live vending machine. Yes an actual vending machine that had live gorgeous models from the era when the Foshay was actually built. O which reminds me that they also had dancers on the bar from that era along with dancers with canes who would walk around and pour vodka out of the cane just like during prohibition times. Anyhow one of the girls in the vending machine was a model from The Wedding Fair - yes Jena! Who found her but another model from The Wedding Fair - Keno!

So it was up to the 27th Floor - Prohibition was the ultimate destination! Here we are in the elevator and all of a sudden someone says - "It's The Wedding Guys!" Matthew and I are like 'Oh Man'. We are just not so used to being recognized like that when we are out at events ok or Target ask my daughter Stephanie. We all laughed when I said, "Shh Where are they." The 27th floor was actually the floor that the original owner - Wilbur Foshay, had his personal office suite. Can we say NICE with a sizzle sound because I am telling you - it was HOT! When you looked out the windows you could see the 'W' logo being shinning onto the IDS tower. I know - awesome - it was like being in another time and place. Almost Batman like! I KNOW! I'm telling you it was rock star awesome! Well let me just say I know where I am having my Birthday Party in 4 more years. Yes it's a milestone! That's all I am saying. Speaketh no more and moving on................

We have arrived back down to 1st floor. As we walk by beautifully dressed Peekaboo Room dancers from the bygone era of Prohibition and Candy Girls with old time candy favorites like Candy Cigarettes, Sugar Daddy and Slow Poke Suckers just to name a couple. Oh and the best was seeing the old-time movie projectors with old-time 1920's Follies. We are now back on the main floor and the focus is food and beverage.

Now before I get started I want to say something. This is something I saw and I just want to comment so hopefully people learn new things. Well and we all like to learn new things right? Right! OK butler passed hors d' oeuvres are just that. Butler passed. It's not meant to be a stop gap feeding trough where you make dinner off of one tray! If you don't think enough food will be served (which there was more than plenty) eat at home before you go to the event. Now we can move on. Next!

Manny's Steak House at the W Minneapolis Hotel - The Foshay (I always like using formal names) provided the food and beverage and like everything else we were overly impressed. I have included a couple of my favorites from the evening and I hope you will all get a chance to experience the culinary expertise and art that we did. Sue Zelickson was front and center and in the middle of it all. Spoke with her briefly admiring all the fun food and people. Love ya Sue!

Butler Passed Menu Items:

Mini Crab Cakes with Poblano Aioli, Gazpacho Shooter with shrimp, Wild Mushrooms with Fontina Cheese, Chicken Satay with Thai Peanut Sauce, Truffle Deviled Eggs wiht Caviar, Bacon Brats in Puffed Pastry with Black Mustard, Lamb Lollipops with Curried Yoguet Sauce, House made crackers with Chevre, Carmelized Onion and Micro Greens, Rare Seared Beef Tenderloin Crostini, with Smoked Tomato Marmalade, and Roquefort Cheese. Giant Shrimp Cocktail, Carved Bone-In Rib Eye bites and Braised Beef Short Rib and Scallop Sliders.

Assorted Butler Passed Desserts:

Mini Cupcakes, Caramel Brownie Bites, Lollipop Cookies, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, and Assorted Home Made Truffles.

Butler Passed Specialty Drinks:

Epiphany and Behind the Green Door. Sorry can't give you the recipe!

Photos To Be Added Very, Very Soon!
